I ran as root this time (sudo) so I don't understand why it is sayingĪnd I found this in /var/log/cups/access_log:

** (gnome-cups-add:28853): WARNING **: IPP request failed with status 1280Į CUPS-Add-Modify-Printer: Unauthorized I found the program that adds the printer is gnome-cups-manager which calls gnome-cups-add so I ran that, but after I go through and select everything (ran 'sudo gnome-cups-manager') it still doesn't add the printer and in the console it says: Is there a way I can manually force it to try and print using the drivers? It should work, I followed all the steps yet it never creates an entry for my printer :-( What is wrong? I verified I have the correct drivers dpkg -l|grep hplip I checked the log files and only thing I saw possibly relevant was in /var/log/syslog:ĭec 31 01:18:29 ubuntu kernel: lp0: ECP modeĭec 31 01:18:30 ubuntu kernel: lp0: ECP modeĭec 31 01:18:33 ubuntu kernel: ppdev0: registered pardeviceĭec 31 01:18:33 ubuntu kernel: ppdev0: negotiated back to compatibility mode because user-space forgotĭec 31 01:18:33 ubuntu kernel: ppdev0: unregistered pardeviceĭec 31 01:18:36 ubuntu kernel: lp0: ECP mode So apparently it is not setting it up :-( And when I try to print it said in the console: lpr: Error - no default destination available. It should have created the printer I setup. It just says has the New Printer icon to create a new printer. So after I filled those in I clicked Apply.īut when I go back to the Printers control panel I don't see any printer in there. Make sure the HP printer with driver with "series" in the name has a Check Mark next to it, indicating it is the default printer. This is very frustrating because everything seems correct, yet it still doens't work. Verify that the "hp deskjet 960c series" is present. To verify the correct printer has been selected, do the following: Note: There may be one or more printers installed. Click on the "Locate Printer" button to continue. Note: You may see a screen indicating the printer cannot be found. Follow the instructions on the installer screen to complete the installation.
